Christie's Christmas is Charming

Christie's Christmas is the story of a girl of twelve who in one short day changes many around her. And over the coming months we learn of what her kindness, generosity of spirit and friendly behavior brings in return. It's a great book.

Christie was born on Christmas day. For her 12th birthday she is given a train ticket to visit her wealthy relative in a town some 20 miles distant. Her younger brother is ten and a bit envious of the trip. He takes milk with the Dad to the train station each day so is familiar with the trains. Still, he wishes he were the elder brother and getting this opportunity.

Funds are very tight!

This book was recommended at the end of a Grace Livingston Hill story. It features a girl and rather reminds me of a younger female version of the Horatio Alger stories I so love. The young lady is a Christian and simply does what she thinks is correct. She is very kind but not too saccharine .

Christie struggles.

As a result of her quick actions she saves a life. She takes care of a baby and cheers the grumpy guy who is late. Prayer is mentioned and religion does play a part in making her a better individual. For young ladies I suspect this is just the ticket for a happy read. It's a chapter book and one I'd have read my own duo had I been aware of it when they were younger.

Recommended, especially for little girls. The girl is a true heroine and you'll like her. I did!

This is the best Isabella Alden book yet! I have been thoroughly challenged and uplifted by this sweet story. Roughly 100 years has passed since these words were penned, but the truths set into the sweet story are as fresh, real and life changing as when the ink was still drying.

About the Author
Carl Kirschner is Professor of Spanish and Dean of Rutgers College. Formerly Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers, he has taught courses in linguistics (syntax and semantics), sociolinguistics and bilingualism, and second language acquisition. Professor Kirschner received his Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts. He has published a book on Spanish semantics and numerous articles on Spanish syntax, semantics, and bilingualism, and edited a volume on Romance linguistics.

Mary Lee Bretz is Professor Emerita of Spanish and former Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers University. Professor Bretz received her Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Maryland. She has published numerous books and articles on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Spanish literature and on the application of contemporary literary theory to the study and teaching of Hispanic literature.

Trisha Dvorak is Senior Program Manager with Educational Outreach at the University of Washington. She has coordinated elementary language programs in Spanish and taught courses in Spanish language and foreign language methodology. Professor Dvorak received her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. She has published books and articles on aspects of foreign language learning and teaching and is co-author of Composici�n: Proceso y s�ntesis, a writing text for third year college students.

Los otros estudiantes en mi clase de espa�ol les gusta mucho a este libro. Los articulos son muy interesantes, faciles a leer, y me ense�an mucho de la estructura y el vocabulario. El libro habla mucho de los estereotipos, la familia, las ciudades y m�s de la cultura hispana. Recomiendo a este libro a estudiantes intermedios para mejorar la comprenci�n.

The Hobo Philosopher

This book is documented to the limit and quoted and made reference to by everyone. This is a classic in radical history. It doesn't say anything nice or positive about the Great Wealthy Americans. This book is anti-capitalistic. It is anti-wealthy. It is not spoken of favorably by most established sources - but nobody can deny its research and its facts. If you are a descendant of a DuPont, or a Rockefeller, or a Carnegie, or a Vanderbilt, or J. P. Morgan, or the railroad barons you will not like Gustavus Myers. On the other hand I love this book and think there is probably more facts and truth in this account than you will probably find in most American History books.
Myers has written more of the same controversial nature and I intend to get them all.

poor quality illustrations

I purchased volumes 1,2,3 of this title. In all 3 volumes, there are some illustrations that are only partially there or missing altogether with a descriptive caption underneath an otherwise blank page. The illustrations that are complete are of low resolution. Also, there are the occasional random marks and scribblings here & there throughout these 3 books. This can be annoying and distracting. However, the text information of all 3 volumes is so well written, thorough, and interesting if you enjoy reading this kind
of history, that these 3 volumes are still worth keeping. So, rated 5 stars for content of the text minus 2 stars for the poor illustrations and the random marks here & there throughout these 3 books, for a total overall rating of 3 stars. The publisher of these books is forgottenbooks.com and these 3 volumes can be downloaded in digital pdf format with the illustrations being high quality; however, the random scribblings are still there in the digital format. As of this review, for $9 a month you can download as many books as
you want from the forgottenbooks website, and they advertise that they have 484,000 old books in digital format.

A good read and reference

Davies explores the complexity of the style of play based on possession and pressing known as "Tiki Taka."

The section on philosophy development, training, and exercises from various clubs would be valuable for any club director or coach wishing to implement such a style. In addition, the book outlines the historical evolution of the style of play by profiling key managers, teams and players. The discussion of tactics contains some wonderful profiles and examples of teams beyond just F.C. Barcelona.

Davies uses primary and secondary sources to cite recent research to assert his claims. The author also sprinkles tasty quotes throughout, the diagrams are clear and easily understood, and there are some wonderful illustrations of influential managers and players.

Overall this was a pleasure to read as well as a reference I have already returned to several times. Although the book cautions against trying to clone a methodology, I recommend it as a resource to any coach seeking to press and possess.

There is a broad range of content to place the style within context, but the presentation is with enough brevity and focus to remain very interesting.

THE Reference for Coaching the Tiki Taka Style of Play

This has to be the best Soccer Coaching book ever published. It really is fantastic A +++++

The chapters include philosophy, development, training, and practices which come directly from great academies such as Barcelona and Ajax. The book also outlines the historical evolution of the style of play and profiles key managers, teams and players (Michels, Cruyff, Guardiola, Ajax, Barcelona etc). But don't think this book just goes over the obvious influences, as the discussion of tactics contains some wonderful profiles and examples of teams beyond just F.C. Barcelona.

Davies uses primary and secondary sources and there are interesting quotes through the whole book. The diagrams are brilliant and the whole book reads very well.

If you want to learn how to press collectively and maintain possession, this has to be the book for you. It was a pleasure to read and I use it as a reference for my training almost daily. I can't wait for a possible second volume.

Well organized and informative i enjoyed it every time I have read it. Its not one of those " because this is how it has always been done" books. You have to really know your players and they really have to know themselves.

She's a Radiologic Technologist with a Master’s degree in Education and a Ph.D. in Human Resources. Dr. Makely has developed and directed allied health education programs, career advancement initiatives, and workforce education and development projects for more than thirty five years.

Dr. Makely is a consultant, speaker, author, and researcher. As President and CEO of Pine Ridge Publications, Inc. she has authored and published several books on health careers, cross-training, teamwork, and professionalism for Pine Ridge Publications, Prentice Hall, and other publishing companies. Dr. Makely authored the first two editions of Prentice Hall's health care professionalism texts as well as the new, third edition scheduled for publication in January, 2008.

Dr. Makely served on the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Advisory Panel of the National Multiskilled Health Practitioner Clearinghouse, the Pew Health Professions Commission’s Allied Health Advisory Panel, the National Health Care Skill Standards Review Committee, and the Indiana Chamber's Employer Advisory Council. She has directed several grant-funded programs including a federal demonstration site for the US Department of Labor and Workplace Skills programs for the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. In 1991, Dr. Makely was honored as the Baxter Fellow for Innovation in Health Management by the American Hospital Association's Research and Educational Trust and the Baxter Foundation.

Professionalism in Health Care

I think the book is okay but too expensive for the size and the information it has. I already had a professionalism class that was basically the same thing, just not a medical version.I found Therapeutic Communications to be a better book.

Book needs a professional makeover

One teeth-grinding feature of this book is Ms. Makely's constant habit of putting quotes around phrases (e.g., "prove yourself", "free labor", "press your buttons") -- phrases that don't need quotes. Someone needs to tell her that this has the effect in readers' minds of casting doubt on whatever is being said -- it's as though she's saying, "I don't believe what I'm writing" or maybe "I think what I am writing here is beneath me, but I'll write it anyway."

Another (and probably worse) is the tendency to lecture as though her audience is a bunch of PINS (persons in need of supervision), especially the places where she lobs rhetorical question after rhetorical question, implying the reader is no doubt the laziest, sloppiest person imaginable. These harangues are insulting and disrespectful.

Finally, the CD is out of date -- it claims to work on a Macintosh, but it sure doesn't on mine.

Good book, HORRIBLE CD-ROM

I needed this book for a class. The book was fine but the CD that came with it was terrible. It didn't save or print my work. It kept freezing and an error message kept popping up. Once the error message popped up it would kick me out and every time I tried to get back on it it would keep kicking me out. Some other students in my class was having the same problem.

About the Author

John L. Worrall is Professor of Criminology and Program Head at the University of Texas at Dallas. A Seattle native, he received both his M.A. (criminal justice) and Ph.D. (political science) from Washington State University, where he graduated in 1999. From 1999 to 2006, he was a member of the criminal justice faculty at California State University, San Bernardino.� He joined University of Texas at Dallas in� the fall of 2006. Dr. Worrall has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics, ranging from legal issues in policing to crime measurement. He is also the author or coauthor of numerous textbooks, including Introduction to Criminal Justice (with Larry J. Siegel, 13th ed., Cengage, 2012) and Criminal Procedure: From First Contact to Appeal (4th ed., Prentice Hall, 2013); coeditor of The Changing Role of the American Prosecutor (SUNY, 2009); and editor of the journal Police Quarterly.

Moore is Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.� She obtained her B.A. in government from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, and her J.D. with honors from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.� Prior to entering academics, Professor Moore practiced at a large law firm in Atlanta, Georgia.� Her legal practice included corporate litigation, antitrust litigation, and white-collar criminal defense.� Professor Moore has also published articles on a wide range of legal topics, with a specific focus on criminal-law issues.

The best legal book I have read

As a paralegal student, I have read many books to prepare for the paralegal world. This is the best book I have read so far. It is succinct and supported by the most relevant and current case law. This is a book you must have in order to be a properly balanced and well educated paralegal.
