Mitch Schneider is a fourth generation "mechanic/technician" and is a frequent speaker at major conventions and meetings of automotive industry trade organizations. Schneider is also an award-winning journalist and is a regular contributor and senior contributing editor for Motor Age magazine. He provides commentary on the evolving relationship between service dealers, jobbers, warehouse directors and manufacturers. Schneider has also appeared on the TNN cable show "Truckin USA" where he hosted the "Tech Tips" segment. In addition to operating the award-winning Schneider's Automotive for 22 years in Simi Valley,CA, he is also the president and founder of Schneider's Future-Tech, a service company specializing in conducting management seminars for automotive service dealers, jobbers, and warehouse distribution companies, and manufacturers. Finally, Schneider has also served as automotive service dealer spokesperson for the AFTER MARKET AUTOMOTIVE PARTS ALLIANCE, headquarters for AUTO VALUE, ALL PRO & BUMPER to BUMPER and is still seated on their National Automotive Service Advisory Panel.

OK but feminist-pandering

Although I've just read the first chapter, the author's use of the uber-feminist "her" as the gender comprehensive is jarring. Politics has no place in a book like this, and using "her" as the gender comprehensive just doesn't make any sense (especially since it can be construed as sexist!).

Author Richard James DeSocio's background can be described as diverse, with an educational background in economics and finance. As an upstate New York resident, he began writing during the recession of 1984 after coming upon an unemployment line that extended through the front door and around the building. Wondering about the state of the economy and more specially the state of an eroding manufacturing sector, he dug into research that led to his first book release in 1992. The Elements of Economic Destruction: Why the American Living Standard Is Falling (a.k.a Richard James), focuses on the decline of industry in his hometown of Auburn and is similar in theme to Michael Moore's Roger and Me. Manufacturing was once the backbone of the New York economy and Auburn alone lost eight thousand factory jobs. It explores the explosive growth of America's mighty industrial engine of the nineteenth century by discussing such notables as Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Ford and Rockefeller and their respective sectors: railroads, steel, oil and autos. A Book for the 99 Percent

As a researcher, author Richard James DeSocio deserves five stars, for prying open hidden closet
doors. But, for strength of convict, he deserves the highest accolades. So many JFK assassination
researcher place the blame on vague/nebulous parties: like the mafia, the CIA, the military-industrial
complex. DeSocio points a finger straight at one man: Nelson Rockefeller. Although long gone, his
bloodline still reigns in top power seats, with nephew Senator Jay Rockefeller in one seat and
nephew David Rockefeller, Jr. heading the roundtable of Rockefeller-controlled foundations which
are secretly being manipulated to advance worldwide monopoly. For the courage to stick his neck
out in front of the leviathan, DeSocio has earned 100 stars, in my estimation. We, the
99 percent, must stand behind him for the common good.

A fun, fast-paced romp

Graham Lawson, LAPD weapons expert, is a modern day knight in shining armor. In the middle of investigating a case involving strange sexual practices, he's sent to an exhibit called "sex in the Middle Ages." When he falls through a painting, he discovers a strange tie to his case, and a medevil lass who is ready to steal his heart.

Graham is the kind of man who feels at home in any time. This all-around good guy is strong and stalwart and true. Oh, and did I mention hotter than an August summer day? A picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say, but looking at the cover (okay so I have a thing for strong men with big swords, blame it on Aragorn), I could wax poetic for far more than a thousand words about this hero.

No shrinking Violet, Linnet is a strong woman more than ready to stand up to those who wish to do her harm, and take exactly what she wants. Luckily for the reader, Graham is firmly on her radar. She wastes no time. The dialogue sparkles and the action keeps the reader turning pages as fast as she can read. A gem of a book, there's nothing hidden about my enjoyment of this novel. A very good read.

Can't really call this a book.

I'm contemplating returning this book, but for the cheap purchase price it's probably not worth it. Was going to give it to my 7 year old for Christmas but it's hardly what I would consider a book. It's nothing more than a collection of pages with one picture per page that takes up 2/3 the page and a sentence or two with a basic Minecraft tip but doesn't really tell you how to do anything at all. There is no meat to the content whatsoever, how the book has managed to pull off a 4.5 star rating with over 90 reviews is beyond me.

How this can be considered a all in one game guide that does not explain a single thing it talks about, is beyond me. I got this for my sons and beyond the laugh we had looking at how badly this was put together there was nothing else gained.

The Grass Harp should be a companion book to Lee Harper's To Kill a Mockingbird. Since Harper Lee and Capote were childhood friends, I kept imagining Collin as Dill, told from Capote's point of view.

if you don't have to read this don't

I have to read this book for my comp 2 class in college. It is horrible. Capote doesn't give a clear picture of what he writing about and he rambles on about his life that seems very dismal. If you want to read a good book try The Count of Monte Cristo or my favorite Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington. Those are books that get somwhere and are interesting.

An interesting set of case studies and application of patterns in TDD (title is somewhat misleading)

I evaluated this book for my graduate class on advanced software design. I'm still ambivalent about making it a required text.

Strengths: Code examples in Java. Interesting reasoning of applying patterns, especially with respect to variability (a dimension I find is often minimized in many texts). Addresses iterative development with testing, with real examples and detailed analyses of risks. There are exercises, which are useful in a course environment. The reasoning for applying patterns (or not) is quite detailed. The projects (pay station software development) are realistic, although the problem domain might be more suited for people familiar with these devices (in Denmark). The Figure 1 in the "Tour of the book" gives a great map of the case studies, patterns, etc. It's easy to go to specific applications of patterns (the book is quite modular).

Weaknesses: When I compare its price to other books on Agile Design and OOD patterns (e.g. Craig Larman's UML 2 and Patterns from 2005), this book is overpriced (almost double the price). There's an eBook option (Kindle) but it's the same price as the hard cover (that doesn't encourage sustainable development). The author introduces a 3-2-1 method that is actually a new name for an old thing. He makes no reference to Protected Variations coined by Larman (which is the same as the 3-2) or Indirection (which is the 1), but oddly cites Larman on a less-important coining of "Don't talk to strangers" for the Law of Demeter pattern. Variability is a big part of this book, but I feel the author doesn't do a good job of showing who else contributed along these lines. The text refers to "stories" from XP, but there's little guidance on how to write stories (despite Agile being in the title). Reliability is also exagerrated. It's defined (borrowed from ISO 9126) but mostly this books is based on writing code that is bug-free via Test-Driven Development in Agile (good material, but not sufficient for true reliability). Reliability also concerns dealing with failures in the software that occur because of environmental problems, for example. This book is not about fault tolerance, even though Reliability in the title might imply it. Again, books such as Larman's address fault tolerance specifically and discuss patterns for achieving it through redundancy.

Good textbook for Hands-on Applications Programming class

I used this textbook for an upperclass Applications Programming course with approximately 15 students. The students and I enjoyed the book and found the material engaging, understandable, and helpful for developing good programming practices. The book is a good fit for a course which builds on previous courses in programming, data structures, and algorithms. It teaches students Test Driven Development, Design Patterns, and Software Lifecycle topics in the context of a significant hands-on programming project. It is well-suited to a team-oriented approach, and fits nicely into a series of two-week iterations in a 15 week semester, so students get a feel for an Agile Software Development process. The online Teacher Resources are very useful and useable, and include Lecture Slides, code examples, and suggestions for how the material should be used in several course formats.

OPC UA unifies the previous specifications into one single address space capable of dealing with current data, alarms and events and the history of current data as well as the event history. A remarkable enhancement of OPC UA is the Address Space Model by which v- dors can expose a rich and extensible information model using object-oriented techniques. OPC UA scales well from intelligent devices, controllers, DCS, and SCADA systems up to MES and ERP systems. It also scales well in its ability to provide information; on the lower end, a model similar to Classic OPC can be used, providing only base information, while at the upper end, highly sophisticated models can be described, providing a large amount of metadata including complex type hierarchies.

Good OPC UA Introduction. English could be better.

The best comments I can make about this book can be taken from the book itself:

From the Preface: The [OPC UA] specification primarily defines how to do things and to a lesser extent explains why it was designed that way. This is the way specifications have to be written to be widely applied by many developers and to guarantee interoperability between different applications. As a result, the OPC UA specification is hard to read for someone new to OPC UA. This is also true for other specifications such as SQL or UML. With this book, we want to fill this gap and provide an easy to understand introduction to OPC UA. We will not provide the same detail as the specification, but rather introduce and explain the main concepts of OPC UA.

Not bad.

I was almost tempted to give it five stars. Not that it's a perfectly five-star book, but considering that there's literally nothing else on OPC, it's good enough to get high ratings.

The book covers UA OPC on the conceptual level pretty extensively and clearly, and considering the fact that the specs for this purportedly "open" standard are not freely accessible (the corporate take on the word "open", I guess), this is the book to go to if you work with OPC.

I agree with the other reviewers that the book is under-proofread, but the problems are not so bad as to impede comprehension.

I also notice that the price just went up twenty percent overnight -- don't you wish something like this happened to your salary? I bought it less than a month ago for about forty-seven, now it's about fifty-seven. On one hand, as far as prices for this sort of literature go it's not that bad, but for christ's sakes, publishers appear to have lost their minds in the last couple of years. How can you jack up something twenty percent overnight? Is it their way to maintain income during bad economy? Get the book in the library or at least get your employer to pay for it. Naturally search the net for best prices.

Overall, if you need OPC, you have no other choices, and this one (amazingly) is totally adequate for a comprehensive conceptual overview. This is rarely the case: usually esoterica like that are either completely uncovered or covered exceptionally badly. This book is not bad though; I feel no remorse giving it four stars.

Essential starting point in OPC UA

I regard this book as the first one you should read if you are new to OPC UA. It explains the concepts good and is understandable if you are a technical IT person (bear in mind that it is intended for IT specialists). It lays the concepts well and has a few examples that make things alot easyer. For the information it delivers it is well priced.
Do not be frightened if you are at the middle of the book and things are still a little blurry, as things will start to clear out. Maybe the only thing that is a little troublesom is the organization of the chapters. The author shows a little bit of architecture in the beginning but jumps to modelling and services/transport. Only at the last quarter of the book more architecture is explained, I think that he should have kept more architecture in the beginning to make a more fluent tranition from general specifications to detail.
